Chaco

The very word can strike mystery. Chaco National Cultural Historical Park is a powerful place. Lying in northwestern New Mexico, it is a place of power when the story of the Ancestral Puebloan (formerly Anasazi) peoples is told. Built to scale from 850 CE to 1100 CE, its buildings are master works of architectural design and construction. Even today, its center place, Pueblo Bonito, has wall standing, with help, some 5 stories high.

Almost all Puebloan peoples claim a link to its story, in tales, in dances, and in cultural and spiritual history.

These images were taken over a number of years, multiple visits, using different camera technologies. My hope is that they start to show the power and the mystery of this place.
